A Stan Levey/Charlie Parker exclusive!
On a recent SoCal radio interview, legendary drummer, Stan Levey shared an anecdote about Charlie Parker. Stan has a unique perspective because he lived in a New York apartment flat with Parker. One night, both were asleep (in separate beds, Stan emphasizes) and Levey was awoken by Parker getting out of bed and grabing his saxophone and music manuscript paper. He played and wrote for about ten minutes, then got back in bed and promptly fell asleep. The tune he wrote, while half asleep, says Stan, was the jazz classic "Confirmation"!
