Session notes: May 2007 Archives

We've been cruising along at Dos Gringos, jamming twice a month. The owner, Nelson Oldham, is happy and enthused about the project. Jazz Aspen has agreed to lend their support where possible. More of the public are showing up, and perhaps most importantly, more musicians are connecting with each other, and learning the repertoire.

Last time, we played tunes like "Along Came Betty", "Cantalope Island", "Afternoon In Paris", "Airegin", "Sail Away", "Cousin Mary", "Recordame", and "How Insensitive".

We talked a little about getting our heads out of the printed music, and into the "landscape of sound". In my humble opinion, even when we don't quite know the tune entirely, it's good to look away, as much as possible.

Anyway, hope to see more of you next time!
