Our first session in the fall of 2008 saw a fine turn out.  We introduced one another, talked about the workshop philosophy, and played a blues that I'd penned on the way to the workshop.  I call it "JAS Blues".  We talked about some basic principals that I tried to illustrate within the composition, including:

  • repetition
  • use of space
  • short notes and long notes
  • articulation
