Spring notes 2006

I've been remiss in posting to this blog.  Sorry.  Here's what we've been up to this spring in our Thursday night sessions.

We started by attempting to rehearse for the Jazz Aspen Festival, but there was not enough interest to keep a steady group going.  We went a slightly different route, which I'll explain later.  So, we went back to basics, and worked on exercises and scales.  This worked well for those that remained a part of the workshop.  We did some work on integrating the modes of the melodic minor scale.  I chose "What Is This Thing Called Love" as a vehicle for practicing these scales.  I substituted Cmaj7+5 for Cmaj7, to get the Lydian Augmented sound in there.  We also, as you can see, played with some bebop scales.

As I alluded to earlier, we had to come up with a plan B for the Jazz Aspen Festival concerts.  We've started the "Advanced Combo - Jazz Workshop", with members:

• Marc Johnson - Tenor Sax
• Tim Fox - Trumpet
• Larry Luchowski - Piano
• Mark Gray - Bass
• Bob Levey - drums

We've been getting together on Thursdays, rehearsing and talking jazz.  We'll be performing at the Aspen Jazz Festival:

• Friday, June 23rd - 4:15-5:45 PM
• Saturday, June 24th - 3:00-3:50 PM
• Sunday, Jun 25 - 4:00-4:50 PM
