We've recently been hitting our patterns with zeal. Lots of disscussion has revolved around the melodic/harmonic tendencies in these patterns, and how these tendencies are universal in creating good melodies and voice leading.
We're also learning about the modes. Combo 1 worked on playing Blue Bossa thinking in terms of modes and key centers, instead of individual chord/scales. Combo 2 has been looking at the modes of the melodic minor (ascending only) scale, and studying under which harminic circumstaces each mode might be applied.
And, of course, we're still working on the blues.
