Our big finale

| | Comments (0)

Last week, we rehearsed and performed with several of our group and some young jazz artists from the Denver area. These young people all had tenures in Paul Romaine's jazz conservatory in common. The group consisted of Trumpet (Kenny), Tenor Sax (Danny), Trombone (Mike), Piano (Jackie), Bass (Leila [sp?]), and Drums (Johnny). I never did get last names... From our group, Aston Taufer, (Bass), Mike Gorman (Tenor Sax), Connor O'Meara (Bari Sax), and I (Trumpet) participated.

We rehearsed for two evenings, and performed Saturday and Sunday at the Jazz Aspen June festival, in Aspen's Wagner Park.

We played some blues, Blue Bossa (Kenny Dorham), Nardis (Miles Davis, with a hip-hop beat), Katrina Ballerina (Woody Shaw), Fee Fi Fo Fum (Wayne Shorter), and a couple of original tunes by Danny and Mike. These last tunes were "free" jazz tunes, based on group interaction, texture, and a fairly steady rhythm.

I'd like, once again, to thank Jazz Aspen Snowmass folks, Chris Bank, Joe Lange, Jim Horowitz, Marc, Breslin, and all of the JAS supporters for helping to keep jazz education vital in our valley.

I'll be working up a fall session schedule soon, so come on back! And don't forget our summer goals!
